How to choose a pet-friendly stay in Hot Springs
Hot Springs is an easy town to visit with a dog. Here is how to find a rental that actually works for yours.
Why Hot Springs works for dogs
Leashed pets are allowed on all 26 miles of trails in Hot Springs National Park and in its campground. The leash can be no longer than six feet, and pets are not allowed inside park buildings or on ranger-led programs.
The park asks visitors to follow the B.A.R.K. Ranger principles: bag waste, always leash, respect wildlife, and know where you can go.
What to check in the listing
- The pet fee. Is it per pet or per stay, and is it refundable?
- Limits. Many hosts limit the number, size or breed of pets. Get approval for your specific animal in writing.
- The yard. If the listing says fenced, ask how high the fence is and whether the whole yard is enclosed.
- Rules inside. Are pets allowed on furniture? Can they be left alone in a crate?
- Water. At lake houses, ask whether dogs can swim from the dock.
Assistance animals
Airbnb's accessibility policy says hosts must accommodate service animals even if the listing says no pets, unless Airbnb has granted an exemption, and hosts may not ask for documentation. Emotional support animals are treated differently and can be subject to normal pet rules in many places.
Questions to ask the host
- What is the city STR license number?
- What is the total pet fee for my stay?
- Is there a nearby vet or emergency animal clinic you would recommend?
- Are there trails or open space nearby where leashed dogs are welcome?

Common questions
Why is there no top 10 list here?
Our old list described properties we could not verify, so we removed it. We now feature only listings we have checked are real and licensed, and we do not rank them.
How much are taxes on a Hot Springs rental?
Inside city limits, stays under 30 nights carry about 14.5% in state, county and city taxes. Airbnb and Vrbo collect them at checkout.
Can my dog hike in Hot Springs National Park?
Yes, on a leash no longer than six feet, on all of the park's trails. Dogs are not allowed inside park buildings.
