How to find a good budget stay in Hot Springs
Practical ways to keep lodging costs down in Hot Springs without ending up somewhere you regret.
Pick your dates carefully
Weeknights usually cost less than weekends, and rates move with big events. Oaklawn's 2026-27 live racing season opens November 27, 2026, with the Arkansas Derby on April 10, 2027. If your dates are flexible, check them against the racing calendar and local festivals before you book.
Monthly stays of 30 nights or more are outside the city's short-term rental ordinance, and Airbnb's Arkansas lodging taxes apply to reservations of 29 nights or shorter, so a long stay can price out very differently.
Look at the total, not the nightly rate
Compare the total price, not the nightly rate. Cleaning fees, pet fees and taxes add up. In the city of Hot Springs, stays under 30 nights carry about 14.5% in state, county and city taxes, which Airbnb and Vrbo collect at checkout.
- A low nightly rate with a large cleaning fee can cost more than a pricier place for a one- or two-night stay.
- Check whether parking, pets or extra guests carry separate fees.
- Read the cancellation policy. The cheapest rate is often the least flexible.
Where budget travelers look
- Away from downtown and the water. Lakefront and walk-to-Bathhouse-Row locations carry a premium. A short drive saves money if you have a car.
- State park cabins. Lake Catherine State Park rents fully equipped cabins with kitchens, many built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Lake Ouachita State Park also has cabins.
- Private rooms. Renting a room in a host's home costs less than a whole house, if you are comfortable sharing space.
Questions to ask before you book
- Is the property licensed with the city? (Inside city limits it must be.)
- What is the total for my dates, including cleaning fee and taxes?
- Is there off-street parking?
- How far is the nearest grocery store?
- Is the listing's photo set current?

Common questions
Why is there no top 10 list here?
Our old list described properties we could not verify, so we removed it. We now feature only listings we have checked are real and licensed, and we do not rank them.
