The story

Travel site Only In Your State featured an Airbnb farm stay in Garland County where guests can watch, feed and pet pygmy goats, a miniature horse and a miniature donkey. The house is a roughly 100-year-old farmhouse with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and it sleeps up to 11.

Airbnb also runs a dedicated farm stay category for Arkansas, so these listings are easy for guests to find when they search for something other than a house in town.

If you have acreage near Hot Springs

  • Check your zoning and any deed or HOA rules on keeping animals before you add any.
  • Inside Hot Springs city limits, every short-term rental needs a city business license, and the city's July 2025 update says new licenses in residential zones (capped at 400) are not available. Confirm your property's status with the Planning and Development office (501-321-6905) before you plan anything.
  • Talk to your insurer. Ask directly whether guest contact with animals is covered under your short-term rental policy, and get the answer in writing.
  • Set clear house rules for animal areas, especially for children, and say plainly in the listing what guests can and cannot do.

Update, September 2026

Airbnb and the American Farmland Trust are offering grants of up to $10,000 to working farms and ranches through the Farm to Stay program, for preparing space for overnight guests or adding farm experiences. Eligibility covers for-profit farms of a half-acre to 500 acres that earned at least $1,000 in the past year. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that a typical Arkansas farm hosting guests earned about $5,800 from it last year.
